STEM-Eligible Degree

The MSM-Finance program in the Corporate Financial Analytics, Risk Management Analytics and Financial Big Data Analytics tracks qualifies as a STEM degree, which allows international students in a technical field to apply for a 24-month extension to their optional practical training (OPT) period. This means you may be eligible for up to three years of work in the United States. Visit the U.S. government’s website for more information on STEM extensions.

Get an Edge on the Competition

Within Weatherhead’s Master of Science in Management-Finance (MSM-Finance) program, you will obtain the knowledge to make immediate and skilled contributions to corporate finance, financial modeling, valuation, derivatives, risk management, and financial econometrics.

Through case studies, projects, corporate presentations, field trips, and internships, management in finance students acquire a solid foundation in finance while applying key concepts and theories in and out of class.

Case Western Reserve University is the latest university to be welcomed into the CFA Institute University Recognition Program. The Master of Science in Management – Finance (MSM-Finance) program in the Weatherhead School of Management has been acknowledged as incorporating at least 70 percent of the CFA Program Candidate Body of Knowledge (CBOK) and placing emphasis on the CFA Institute Code of Ethics and Standards of Practice within the program. This program positions students well to obtain the Chartered Financial Analyst® designation, which has become the most respected and recognized investment credential in the world.

World-Class Faculty

The MSM-Finance program is led by the same world-class faculty who teach in our highly regarded undergraduate finance program (ranked first in the U.S. by Businessweek in 2010 and 2012).

Train for Finance in the Real World

While many MSM-Finance degrees focus on quantitative skills, students at Weatherhead gain a solid background in focused financial theory and often gain a network of regional, national and international business contacts while enrolled.

Senior consultant Mary Washburn, MSM-Finance ’16, learned how to see the bigger picture while in Weatherhead’s MSM-Finance program.

MSM-Finance students leave Weatherhead knowing how to:

  • Speak and understand the language of business
  • Pitch an idea
  • Work effectively with superiors, co-workers and groups
  • Practice good time management
  • Take feedback and deal with pressure and frustration
  • Write well in the business environment

Additionally, international students have the opportunity to participate in a Spoken English Language Program to refine their presentation and communication skills.

Learn More Than Number Crunching

Students in the MSM-Finance program discover that:

  • Finance can be more of an art than an exact science
  • Stories are as important as numbers
  • Good first impressions go far
  • Conceptual understanding trumps number crunching
  • The big picture comes before details: It’s important to exercise common sense when looking at numbers
