Over 700,000 Vehicles Recalled Including Explorers, F-150s, Mustangs, Escapes, And More

Ford (F) has issued a recall for more than 700,000 vehicles because they may have a backup camera issue that could cause the screen to go black or distort.

The automaker said that several 2020 vehicles are affected by the recall, including Ford Explorers, F-150s, Mustangs, Transits, Super Duties, Expeditions, Escapes, Rangers, and Edges as well as Lincoln Corsair, Nautilus, and MKX models.

The affected Ford Explorers were built at the Chicago Assembly Plant from Nov. 16, 2019 to May 18, 2020, while the F-150s were built at the Dearborn Assembly Plant in Michigan from Oct. 26, 2019 to May 18, 2020, and the Kansas City Assembly Plant in Missouri from Nov. 2, 2019 to May 18, 2020.

Ford’s recalled Mustangs were built at the Flat Rock Assembly Plant in Michigan from Oct. 28, 2019 to May 20, 2020 while the Ford Transits were built at the Kansas City Assembly Plant from Oct. 28, 2019 to May 20, 2020.

The affected Ford Super Duty trucks were built at its Kentucky Truck Plant from Nov. 3, 2019 to May 18, 2020, and its Ohio Assembly Plant from Oct. 30, 2019 to May 18, 2020. The Ford Expeditions affected by the recall were built at the Kentucky Truck Plant from Oct. 30, 2019 to June 22, 2020, and the Ford Escape models recalled where built at the Louisville Assembly Plant in Kentucky from Nov. 5, 2019 to May 18 2020.

Ford’s recalled Ranger trucks were built at the Michigan Assembly plant from Dec. 9, 2019 to May 19, 2020, and the Ford Edge vehicles were built at the Oakville Assembly Plant in Ontario, Canada from Nov. 13, 2019 to May 26, 2020.

Ford also recalled the Lincoln Corsair built at its Louisville Assembly Plant from Nov. 14, 2019 to May 18, 2020, and the Lincoln MKX and Nautilus models built at its Oakville Assembly Plant from Nov. 21, 2019 to May 26, 2020.

The issue with the backup camera stems from insufficient electrical conductivity within the printed circuit board that is an internal part of the camera. This can cause the rearview camera’s display to go dark or distort the displayed image violating the Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards.

To repair the issue, Ford dealers will replace the rearview camera. Ford said vehicle owners will begin to be notified by Nov. 7.

Ford also issued an additional recall for its 2020 Mustangs over a brake pedal bracket that could fracture and cause a loss of brake power. The recall affects over 40,000 vehicles assembled at its Flat Rock Assembly Plant from March 4, 2019 to Aug. 13, 2020. Dealers will replace the brake pedal bracket assembly to repair the issue.

A third recall was issued for Ford’s 2019 F-Series Super Duty vehicles, including the F-250 and F-350 truck models. The issue with the trucks is caused by a wheel end yoke that was not properly welded to the axle tube end, which could impact control of the vehicle.

The recall affects over 10,000 vehicles produced at Ford’s Kentucky Truck Plant from Aug. 24, 2019 to Oct. 16, 2019. Ford dealers will replace the axles assembly if the weld is improperly located to repair the problem.

Shares of Ford were trading at $6.68 as of 12:26 p.m. EDT, up 8 cents or 1.18%.
