Three Ways Insurance Companies Need To Rethink The Role Of Agents

October 13, 2020

Founder and CEO of SmartFinancial.com: on a mission to make the insurance buying process more efficient.

She has excellent listening and problem-solving skills

It used to be that if you asked someone who they’re insured with, they’d give you their insurance agent’s name. Billions of dollars in advertising later, people now name their carrier and barely remember the agent that signed them on. Meanwhile, the brick and mortar agencies are waning in importance, and companies like Nationwide are moving to a virtual workforce model. In my role as a CEO overseeing an insurance-technology platform, I’ve observed one thing that remains the same despite all the confusing shifts over the past few decades: Insurance agents are still the primary sales channel for insurers.

Even though carriers can communicate directly with consumers at a lower cost, insurance agents who bring profitable business to carriers are a valued and integral part of the insurance distribution chain. Here’s how future

Why Devils GM Tom Fitzgerald won’t spend $18M in cap space on Taylor Hall, Mike Hoffman … or any big-money free agents

Sorry, Devils fans. Hate to be the bearer of disappointing news if you’ve been waiting for general manager Tom Fitzgerald to make a big free-agent splash to speed up a franchise rebuild.

Not happening.

Not this year.

And maybe not next year.

Fitzgerald made that crystal clear in a Sunday morning Zoom call.

The Devils have a plan to go for it once young centers Nico Hischier and Jack Hughes reach their prime, but not before even though they still are under $18.35 million under next season’s $81.5 million salary cap following three significant weekend acquisitions – defenseman Ryan Murray (4.6M) and left wing Andreas Johnsson ($3.4M) via trades, and goalie Corey Crawford ($3.9M) in a free agent signing

Those additions strengthen the Devils’ depth chart a lot –Murray is

Wisconsin Insurance Commissioner Revokes Agent’s License

September 30, 2020

| insurance

The Wisconsin Office of the Commissioner of Insurance Mark Afable has charged former insurance agent, Timothy S. Bratley, with a number of violations of insurance law all targeting elderly consumers.

Bratley, also a licensed funeral director in northern Wisconsin, was accused of naming himself and his wife as the beneficiary of insurance policies that he sold to his elderly customers.

In one reported instance, Bratley befriended an elderly widower. The man had no living children and was estranged from his family. Bratley and his brother sold the man a life insurance policy to fund future funeral and burial expenses.

Six months later, Bratley allegedly had the man transfer ownership of his home and land to him via quit claim deed. That same day, the man signed a will naming Bratley the beneficiary of his estate and a power of attorney naming Bratley’s wife as the man’s general power of attorney.

Tyler Ennis (left) with Ottawa last season.

While Boston has its own assortment of internal free agents it needs to address, there is a ton of talent available on the open market this offseason.

Boston has had some contracts come off the books this offseason, with deals for Kevan Miller and Matt Beleskey both expiring (unless Miller is back).

Sure, the team should absolutely re-sign some of its free agents. According to CapFriendly, the Bruins have about $14 million to work with this offseason.

With positional needs at right wing and defense, Boston could make a few smart, low-money signings that would be doable even with Torey

Insurance fraud agents get shotguns, fast cars | Politics

September 27, 2020

| insurance

Last year, two insurance fraud investigators were fatally shot in Louisiana while serving cease-and-desist orders to an insurance agent, a common task for the Oklahoma anti-fraud unit, he said.

“That incident, more than anything else, led to the purchase of the weapons, equipment and vehicles that would better protect our investigators in the line of duty,” he said.

In a separate statement, Doak said funding the purchases is legitimate and comes from the department’s anti-fraud revolving fund at no cost to taxpayers.

“Our anti-fraud unit investigates claims of embezzlement, exploitation of the elderly, fraud and more,” he said.

The investigators travel the state protecting Oklahoma consumers, he said.

“They find criminals and bring them to justice,” Doak said. “They need the proper training and tools to do that and protect themselves.”

After the Louisiana deaths, Doak said he realized his investigators weren’t equipped to protect themselves.”

“As much as we

Four questions that highlight the passion for Auto, Home, Business, Property and Life Insurance and three varying responses to them!

Question: No matter how long any insurance agent has been in the business, there was always a time when he or she was a rookie. Can you remember what prompted you to begin a career in indemnity?

Answer 1: Actually, my exposure to the industry came out of my very own requirements. I was personally searching for auto coverage. I was guided a specific agency that showed a level of customer service that seemed unique. They showed an honest interest … Read More

The Mindset of Top Insurance Agents

May 3, 2020
| insurance

Four Key Aspects of a Superior Mindset:

1) Top agents are driven, motivated, and have a get-it-done attitude.

This is perhaps the most important and most obvious part of a top agent’s mindset. They have a no-excuses attitude and you won’t find them standing around complaining and coming up with reasons as to why they aren’t making sales. They find ways around any and all roadblocks and are relentless in their pursuit of success. Top agents know that they simply must get the job done, no matter what, and they are determined that nothing will get in their way. They will pay any price to be successful.

They are self-starters and they see themselves as self-employed. They don’t wait for others to get started, they don’t need someone looking over their shoulder, or telling them what to do. They are anxious to get to work and make things happen. They … Read More
