  • Ads from politicians and campaigns accounted for at least 3% of Facebook’s estimated third-quarter U.S. revenue, according to data from Facebook’s ad library and the Center for Responsive Politics.
  • Google has dramatically limited targeting for political ads and Twitter banned them altogether, leaving Facebook as the only game in town for many campaigns.
  • “For better or worse — mostly worse — Facebook is the de facto place you go,” said Nick Fitz, CEO of online donations site Momentum, which powers the Defeat by Tweet campaign.

DENHAM SPRINGS — Property owners in Denham Springs who subscribe to federal flood insurance policies will see a 10% discount in their insurance premiums after Oct. 1, following a recent positive verification of the city’s Community Rating System field verification.

Mayor Gerard Landry was notified Sept. 17 that the National Flood Insurance Program had reviewed its earlier findings based on a five-year verification system and that the results were the lowering of the flood insurance premiums.

The notification read in part, “Congratulations! The Department of Homeland Security, Federal Emergency Management Agency, has determined that the City of Denham Springs will increase to a Class 8 in the National Flood Insurance Program Community Rating System. Flood Insurance Policies Expiring This Year – United States Virgin Islands

September 29, 2020

ST. CROIX, U.S. Virgin Islands – Following the devastating disasters and hurricane season of 2017, FEMA purchased three-year flood insurance policies for thousands of disaster survivors whose homes were flooded. Those policies are set to expire this year, and survivors need to purchase a new flood insurance policy, or obtain other flood insurance, in order to remain eligible for future FEMA assistance.

Part of the eligibility of receiving financial assistance after a flood is that a homeowner or renter must obtain and maintain flood insurance to ensure that there is no lapse in coverage. If a property affected by a flood is sold, the new owners are required to have flood insurance for the property as well.

Participants must purchase a flood insurance policy or they will be ineligible to receive most forms of assistance in subsequent disasters.

In the U.S. Virgin Islands there are 15 policies expiring from hurricanes

Whitehall superintendent calls insurance response to flood ‘disgusting’

WHITEHALL – The August storms that submerged the village in 4 to 5 feet of flood waters and knocked out power to a 1,000 also devastated the schools.

Related Stories

Whitehall Central School District’s high school floors and walls were covered an inch of backed up water and sewage, and the elementary school gymnasium and kitchen were soaked with 6 inches of rain after wind knocked out the school’s sky lights.

With fall reopening looming, the district scrambled, spending $600,000 to make repairs and dry out the floors. While the elementary school has opened to students, the high school remains uninhabitable – shuttered to all but a handful of administrators clustered in one wing. And Superintendent Patrick Dee said he still has no idea if the district’s insurance carrier, New York School Insurance Reciprocal (NYSIR), will cover the cost of repairing the multimillion dollar damage.

“I’m beyond frustrated,” Dee said.

The Importance of Home Flood Insurance

May 4, 2020

| insurance

A flood insurance is separate from your usual homeowner’s insurance. It is provided by a few insurance companies and comes with its own terms and pricing. This kind of insurance is not mandatory for every homeowner but only to those who live in a designated flood area and has a home mortgage. These places are usually designated by the Federal government as close to main rivers, oceans and dangerous flooding zones. For those who live away from these bodies of water, this insurance is available but only optional. Nevertheless, it is still a good idea to get a policy if your home has a history of flooding from small ponds nearby, excessive rainfall or snow melts.

Remember that while floods can cause a huge destruction, the damage it caused is not covered by a homeowner’s insurance. A home flood insurance offers the special coverage you would need to protect your … Read More

What You Should Know About Flood Insurance

May 4, 2020

| insurance

It was in 1968 that the United States Congress initiated the National Flood Insurance Program so that ensuing related private and business property damage would be reduced. Available through insurance companies and insurance agencies, the coverage is managed and dictated by government laws and can protect the property owner from damage caused by flooding.

A Standard Insurance policy for a dwelling is meant as coverage for a one, two, three or four-family residential building, as well as a single-family home.

A general property flood policy can insure five or more family residential buildings, as well as buildings that are not used for a residence.

A Residential Condominium Building Association policy can insure a residential condo association building.

This type of policy should incorporate two types of related coverage: building property and personal property, defined as the contents in your premises.
