Fort Worth Stock Show and Rodeo canceled in 2021 due to coronavirus pandemic

Event organizers announced Friday the cancellation of the 2021 Fort Worth Stock Show and Rodeo — an annual event that brings over one million visitors to Fort Worth.

The stock show’s president and general manager, Brad Barnes, called the decision “heartbreaking,” and said it “was not made lightly.” The stock show and rodeo has only been canceled once before, he said, at the height of WWII.

“Then, as now, the stock show was canceled to overcome an enemy common to all Americans,” Barnes said. “With more than 1.2 million stock show guests, exhibitors, visitors and competitors converging into the various buildings on the Will Rogers complex during our 23-day show, the chances to harbor and spread coronavirus well beyond the North Texas region, especially in the midst of flu season, is too great a risk to take for the public good.”

Most Fort Bend County cities get boosted sales tax monies

Nearly every city in Fort Bend County has seen their year-over-year sales tax receipts rise, with the exception of Sugar Land.

Texas Comptroller Glenn Hegar announced Wednesday that his office is sending “cities, counties, transit systems and special purpose taxing districts $751.5 million in local sales tax allocations for October, 2.8 percent less than in October 2019.”

The allocations this month represent sales made in August.

“The COVID-19 pandemic continues to weigh on the Texas economy and sales tax revenue,” according to the Comptroller’s Office.


Sugar Land, by far the largest city in Fort Bend County, is receiving a payment of $41.8 million, a decline of more than 11.56 percent compared to last year. For the year, the city has received nearly $41.2 million, an overall drop of 8.36 compared to 2019.

Another big warehouse project on the way in North Fort Worth.

Investor and developer Crow Holdings is eyeing a new industrial project in North Fort Worth.

The Dallas-based firm plans develop a two-building, 536,000-square-foot warehouse park near Interstate 35W on Downing Drive, according to fillings with the state.

The project is slated to start in early 2021 and will take about nine months to complete. The development is valued at more than $20 million.

Crow Holdings is a major warehouse developer with projects across the country.

The real estate firm recently sold 15 warehouse and distribution buildings to PGIM Real Estate in a deal valued at $425 million. The 4.7 million-square-foot sale includes buildings in the Dallas-Fort Worth area, Denver, Atlanta and Phoenix.

Crow Holdings recently partnered with Gruene Real Estate Partners and Weber & Co. to develop a three-building warehouse park in Haslet in Denton County north of Fort Worth.

2,500-home community coming in north Fort Worth

Plano-based developer and builder Green Brick Partners has teamed up with Arizona-based Taylor Morrison Homes to plan a more than 2,500-home community in north Fort Worth.

The two firms plan to break ground in early 2021 on a new residential community named Madero.

New shipping hub lease signed in North Fort Worth

A Pennsylvania –based company that provides products for food service, cleaning, medical and hospitality clients is locating a major new distribution hub in North Fort Worth.

AmerCare Royal’s new distribution center will be the Speedway Logistics Crossing business park located in Denton County near the Texas Motor Speedway.

AmerCare Royal is leasing almost 400,000 square feet in the property at 2401 Petty Place, according to filings with the state.

The big industrial lease is the second major distribution deal signed in the new business park, which is owned by Indianapolis-based Scannell Properties.

AmerCare Royal was created in 2016 with the merger of AmerCare LLC and Royal Paper Products.

The company sells more than 6,000 disposable products – everything from plastic cutlery to latex gloves and bathroom towels and wipes.

AmerCare Royal currently has a distribution center in Flower Mound and other shipping hubs in California, South Carolina and Pennsylvania.
