US online retailer Amazon.Com Inc has slapped a legal notice on Future Group, alleging that the retailer’s Rs 24,713 crore asset sale to Reliance Industries violated an agreement with the e-commerce giant.

“We have initiated steps to enforce our contractual rights,” a spokesperson for the Seattle-based e-commerce giant said. “As the matter is sub-judice, we can’t provide details.”

Amazon last year bought a 49 per cent stake in one of Future’s unlisted firms, Future Coupons Ltd, with the right to buy into flagship Future Retail after a period between 3 and 10 years. Future Coupons owns a 7.3 per cent stake in Future Retail.

In August this year, Future reached an agreement to sell its retail, wholesale, logistics and warehousing units to Reliance.

The deal is awaiting regulatory approvals.

A source who is advising Future Group in this matter told PTI that Future Coupons received

LAKEWOOD, Ohio — Nearly two weeks after Lakewood announced it reached an agreement to part ways with Carnegie Management and Development Corporation regarding the proposed $72 million mixed-use One Lakewood Place development, city officials are talking about the decision.

“We’re paying Carnegie $255,000 to avoid future litigation, which could tie up the site for years to come,” Lakewood Mayor Meghan George said. “We believe this was in the best interest of the city.

“My focus is to ensure that we’re in the best position to move forward. The outcome of this settlement allows the city to begin a new chapter with a new developer on this site. We’re looking forward to that.”

The mayor noted the agreement includes the city retaining Carnegie-completed market studies, surveys and geotechnical reports that will provide value for any future developer.

“It’s disappointing that this partnership fell through,” Lakewood City Council President Daniel J. O’Malley

Students of energy policy have long been familiar with the cry from activists: Government shouldn’t pick the winners and losers.

But the environmental movement, albeit with good intentions, is quite often guilty of that. Collectively, the environmentalists have told the electric utility industry, with varying degrees of vehemence, “We want wind and solar.”

As an afterthought, some environmentalists have acknowledged that there are other options, most notably nuclear and improved storage, and there is the possibility of new technologies or huge improvements in the known ones.

These deserve a hearing in the great sea change now taking place in electricity production.

Overselling Alternatives

Electric utilities want to reduce and end carbon emissions. But right now, they’re struggling with the overselling

The Legend Gets Personal with a Plea for the Future

October 2, 2020

Click here to read the full article.

“I am David Attenborough, and I am 93.” So begins the latest (and potentially last) documentary that bears his name, as the revered English broadcaster and natural historian looks into the camera and reintroduces himself for the umpteenth time with all of his usual warmth and honesty. But such a pointed hello is enough to establish that “David Attenborough: A Life on Our Planet” will be a bit different than “David Attenborough’s Natural Curiosities,” “David Attenborough’s Conquest of the Skies 3D,” and the scads of ecologically minded (and more generically titled) shows graced with his awe, curiosity, and brandied speaking voice.

For one thing, Attenborough is onscreen throughout much of this urgent film, which might surprise viewers who know him as the disembodied narrator of the epic nature series he’s made with the BBC in the Blu-ray era. Beyond that, it’s striking

After spending the better part of the last decade choking every possible cent from the digital media industry, Google’s finally getting the heat that it deserves. More and more people are realizing the company’s monopoly over digital advertising is one of the culprits behind a staggering number of newsroom layoffs. Regulators are realizing this digital dominance could constitute a serious antitrust issue. Combined, that means a massive headache for Google that can, in the company’s eyes, be solved with one thing: a decent payout.

The company’s latest attempt to claw back some goodwill among publishers is a three-year, billion-dollar partnership that’ll go toward the company’s newest product, the Google News Showcase. CEO Sundar Pichai unveiled the Showcase in a company blog post earlier today, promising it would highlight the “editorial curation of award-winning newsrooms” while also helping those newsrooms manifest “deeper

While major corporations furloughing workers and declaring bankruptcy tends to get the biggest headlines, our culture’s dramatic shift to working from home is the true breakout business story from this pandemic. The transition has certainly had its share of ups and downs, but rapidly growing acceptance indicates this is a trend that is almost certainly going to shape the future of work.

While Covid-19 restrictions caused an abrupt shift, working from home was already accelerating. Research from FlexJobs found that the number of people in the United States who worked from home grew by an astounding 159 percent between 2005 and 2017.

Will there be a Black Friday this year? The future of the big shopping day is unknown

September 29, 2020

Doors bursting open at stores. Crowds spilling into the aisles. Elbows brushing up against others. Products flying off shelves. These are the hallmark images of Black Friday.

Well, they were.

That was before the COVID-19 pandemic gripped the nation. Now, the future of the biggest shopping discount day of the year is unknown.

Yes, it will still happen

For many, shopping on the day after Thanksgiving is a tradition. Historically, it’s also one of the best days of the year to save money on big-ticket items like electronics and appliances.

But with social distancing the norm, it’s hard to imagine shoppers camping out on the sidewalk next to one another this year ahead of Nov. 27. It’s even more difficult to picture stores overflowing with excited shoppers.
