Sole Witness Who Heard Cops Announce Themselves in Breonna Taylor Raid Changed His Story

This week, Kentucky Attorney General Daniel Cameron made the bombshell announcement that the cops who fatally shot Breonna Taylor would not be charged with killing her, calling their use of force in the March raid “justified to protect themselves.”In that justification, he said that one witness corroborated the three officers’ insistence that they knocked and identified themselves at Taylor’s Louisville home while executing a search warrant in connection with a narcotics investigation. It contradicted claims from Taylor’s boyfriend, Kenny Walker, and 11 other residents, who said they didn’t hear the cops announce themselves. Bryant Johnson, the late Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg’s personal trainer, dropped to the ground in front of her casket and performed three push-ups to honor her at the U.S. Capitol on Friday.

Johnson, who Ginsburg has called a “very important part of my life,” worked with the justice for more than 20 years. The duo became workout partners in 1999 after Ginsburg received treatment for colorectal cancer, the Associated Press reported. It was, in fact, her husband who triggered her drive to stay fit and rebuild her strength.

At the time, another judge referred Ginsberg to Johnson, an Army reservist and trainer. Since their first meeting, Ginsberg committed to working out twice a week with Johnson, and over the years, the “Notorious RBG,” who often touted the benefits of a good workout, became well-known for her exercise regime.

Following Ruth Bader Ginsburg’s passing last Friday, tributes from around the world have poured in celebrating the extraordinary achievements of the Supreme Court justice and longtime champion of gender equality. This morning, Ginsburg received a more formal send-off at the U.S. Capitol. Beginning with a moving ceremony that saw a bipartisan group of female senators take to the Capitol steps to bid her farewell, Ginsburg became the first woman and Jewish person to lie in state, a tradition stretching back to Abraham Lincoln in which distinguished citizens have their caskets transported to the central rotunda of the U.S. Capitol building for the public to pay their respects.

Yet, as is so often the case, the most touching odes to her life and legacy came from those who knew her best. Ginsburg’s personal trainer, Bryant Johnson, went viral this morning thanks to the unexpected tribute he paid to his close friend.
