Health insurance companies are offering their corporate customers rebates to offset premium costs and reflect lower medical spending as patients avoid doctors’ offices, routine procedures and elective surgeries during the coronavirus pandemic.

It’s unclear how big an impact the rebates, in the form of credits, might have on the premiums companies pay and contributions their employees make. Premiums vary from company to company and, depending on the circumstances, the rebates could lower premiums, keep them from rising or at least limit increases.

NEW JERSEY – An additional $100 million in Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act funding to support New Jersey residents and businesses affected by the COVID-19 pandemic, according to officials.

The bulk of the money, $70 million, will be distributed to restaurants, microbusinesses, and other small businesses through Phase 3 of the New Jersey Economic Development Authority (NJEDA) Small Business Emergency Assistance Grant Program.

“Small businesses and the people they employ are the backbone of New Jersey’s economy, yet they have borne a disproportionate share of the burden of the COVID-19 pandemic,” said Governor Phil Murphy. “If we are to emerge from this pandemic stronger and more resilient than we were before, it is incumbent on us to support them in any way possible. This additional funding helps us accomplish that goal.”

An additional $10 million will be used to help small businesses purchase Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)

India’s central bank and the federal government have urged the nation’s Supreme Court to reject pleas by borrowers to extend a loan repayment holiday, according to people familiar with the filing.

The Reserve Bank of India and the government filed their written views on Friday following an order by the court, saying the measures announced so far to increase liquidity and lower borrowing costs are having a positive impact on the economy, the people said, asking not to be identified because the filings aren’t public.

A RBI spokesperson didn’t immediately respond to a message seeking comment. Finance Ministry spokesman Rajesh Malhotra declined to comment, saying the matter is under consideration by the court.

Earlier this year, the central bank allowed lenders to freeze loan repayments through Aug. 31 to limit the impact of the coronavirus pandemic

Pelosi says no to standalone airline relief bill, as workers and their families say they ‘just need help now’

October 8, 2020

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., called off talks for a standalone airline relief bill Thursday, dashing hopes that a narrow measure to support the airline industry could continue after President Donald Trump abruptly shot down overall stimulus talks earlier this week.

“There is no standalone bill without a bigger bill. There’s no bill,” the speaker said during her weekly press conference.

Pelosi and Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin have had several daily phone calls this week to discuss the viability of a standalone airline relief bill, but after barring his surrogates from holding any more stimulus negotiations, Trump tweeted that “The House & Senate should IMMEDIATELY Approve 25 Billion Dollars for Airline Payroll Support.”

It was not clear what the gap was between the two sides, but a Democratic measure put up for vote last Friday was opposed by Republicans and failed to pass. Republicans wanted details on how it would

American Airlines CEO Says Co. Will Be Forced To Cut Flights Without New Relief Package: CNBC

October 8, 2020

(RTTNews) – American Airlines Group Inc. (AAL) will be forced to discontinue service to additional U.S. markets unless new coronavirus relief package is received, CEO Doug Parker told CNBC on Thursday.

The airline has already cut service to 13 cities through the month of November.

The airlines received aid under the federal Payroll Support Program or PSP under the CARES Act passed by Congress in March, that banned furloughs. They were hoping for an additional $25 billion in funding.

However, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi on Thursday said that there won’t be a stand-alone airline aid package without a larger coronavirus stimulus package.

Early this month, with the expiration of US federal payroll program on September 30, American Airlines and United Airlines started to furlough their employees, that is expected to affect around 32,000 workers in total.

However, the companies in their memos to employees reportedly said they will be recalled

Boston Fed President Eric Rosengren tells FOX Business’ Edward Lawrence that there is a ‘definite need for additional stimulus’ and the U.S. won’t get back to record-low unemployment for at least three years.

A Florida rapper allegedly pocketed more than $1 million in COVID-19 relief funds, which he used to buy a Ferrari and other luxe items, federal prosecutors said.

Diamond Blue Smith — who is a member of the group Pretty Ricky — was charged this week for his role in a $17 million coronavirus relief scheme, according to the US Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of Florida.

Prosecutors allege that Smith — who also appears on the show “Love & Hip Hop: Miami” — obtained $427,000 through his company, Throwbackjersey.com, by falsifying documents for a Paycheck Protection Program (PPP) loan.

The PPP program was meant to help struggling small businesses during the coronavirus pandemic.

Pelosi and Trump Are at Odds Over Airline Relief: Live Updates

October 8, 2020
| business

Here’s what you need to know:

  • Wall Street held on to a small gain Thursday as investors awaited clarity on the status of efforts in Washington to aid ailing industries in the United States.

  • Stocks have been whipsawed this week in a reflection of shifting sentiment about a potential economic stimulus package. Financial markets were roiled on Tuesday after Mr. Trump said he was abandoning efforts to reach an agreement with Democratic lawmakers, but then rallied on Wednesday over the prospect that a deal to at least support the airline industry was still on the table.

  • But on Thursday, the picture grew murkier. Before the start of trading, Mr. Trump said on television that negotiations on a broad stimulus package — not just an airline bill — had resumed.

  • Later, Speaker Nancy Pelosi said she would not agree to an airlines-only relief measure without the promise of more aid for

Phishing campaigns continue to be a popular and pervasive method of cyberattack. By impersonating a well-known company or brand, cybercriminals typically look to capture sensitive information from unsuspecting users. A new phishing attack spotted by cybersecurity firm Armorblox exploits the IRS, the coronavirus, and SharePoint all in one fell swoop.

In a blog post published Wednesday, Armorblox described this credential phishing campaign as one that hit several of its customers just a few days ago. In this attack, the initial email promised an important update on the recipient’s COVID relief funds to be disbursed to the person’s address.

Clicking the link to view a message about this update would take the user to a SharePoint
