Roulette can resume at Encore, MGM Springfield casinos

October 8, 2020
| business

State regulators on Thursday cleared the Encore Boston Harbor and MGM Springfield casinos to reintroduce roulette games for the first time since the COVID-19 pandemic shuttered the state’s gambling industry in March.

The Massachusetts Gaming Commission decision comes nearly three months into the limited reopening of the casinos, which are trying to rebuild their businesses during a devastating year for the hospitality industry. The commission still has not cleared the facilities to allow tournament poker or craps.

The move comes as the casinos’ host communities of Everett and Springfield have become some of the state’s highest-risk areas for the coronavirus. That designation is shared by Boston and several other municipalities, some of which have scaled back their reopening plans and delayed in-person school.

The commission determined that it would be safe to add roulette to the casinos’ slate of games, which already include slots, blackjack, and smaller-scale poker games.

By John Kemp

LONDON, Oct 5 (Reuters) – Hedge funds and other money managers resumed selling oil last week as concerns about the health of the global economy re-emerged and the previous week’s short-covering rally lost momentum.

Hedge funds sold the equivalent of 29 million barrels in the six most important petroleum futures and options contracts, largely reversing purchases of 40 million barrels the week before.

Portfolio managers have sold oil in five of the last six weeks, reducing their total position by 227 million barrels since the middle of August (https://tmsnrt.rs/3d3KNJA).

In the latest week, funds sold NYMEX and ICE WTI (-24 million barrels), Brent (-7 million) and European gasoil (-3 million) but were small buyers of U.S. diesel (+3 million) and U.S. gasoline (+2 million).

Across the six contracts, funds sold 11 million barrels of existing bullish long positions and established 18 million barrels of new bearish

Lululemon could resume its rally. Trader lays out way to catch upside

October 2, 2020

Onetime high flyer Lululemon has run into trouble over the past month.

The stock has fallen 17% from a Sept. 2 high with losses accelerating even after an earnings report that topped analysts’ estimates. The stock remains more than 40% higher for the year.

Todd Gordon, founder of TradingAnalysis.com, says strong demand should help Lululemon recapture upside momentum.

“Lulu is well positioned to benefit from the work-from-home, stay-at-home environment. Comfort clothes are really, I think, second to none … But I also think they’ll benefit if and when the work-from-home, stay-at-home environment ends, because gyms and yoga classes will open back up and the demand will stay strong,” Gordon told CNBC’s “Trading Nation” on Thursday.

He sees strength on three fronts: e-commerce, international expansion and its acquisition of Mirror, a augmented reality interactive fitness company.

“They’re looking to grow at a compound rate of 40% per year in China and

The firm is embarking on a plan to eliminate about 1% of its workforce, or roughly 400 positions, according to people with knowledge of the matter, who asked not to be identified as the information isn’t public. The move comes even as the firm’s core trading and dealmaking businesses are booming.

Ex-Upstate boss admits crime for padding resume; judge to determine how much taxpayer money he stole

Syracuse, NY — Former Upstate administrator Sergio Garcia pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor Wednesday, admitting that he submitted a puffed up resume to get his $340,000-a-year job at the taxpayer funded university and hospital.

Garcia’s plea bargain left Upstate’s former chief of staff with a criminal record, but spared him a felony conviction.

Prosecutor Melanie Carden had sought a felony, accusing Garcia of intentionally lying on his resume as part of a greater plan to defraud the university. Garcia’s lawyer, Joseph Bergh, had argued no crime was committed, saying his client simply exaggerated his resume.

The plea comes after a long-running investigation that began after Garcia quit in 2018 following a controversial speech that included exaggerated remarks about his foreign service. The subsequent investigation uncovered exaggerations on his resume about his work in the U.S. Department of State — he wasn’t “Chief of Staff,” as he claimed — and

CANBERRA, Australia (AP) — Australia’s second-largest city, Melbourne, has further eased lockdown restrictions imposed after a surge in coronavirus cases, allowing most children to return to school from next month and sending more than 125,000 people back to work.

Melbourne and surrounding parts of rural Victoria state were placed under strict “Level 4” lockdowns on Aug. 2, shuttering schools and non-essential businesses, imposing a nighttime curfew and prohibiting public gatherings.

The restrictions were scheduled to be eased Sunday if the rolling 14-day average of new infections was between 30 and 50 cases. With 12 new infections reported Saturday and 16 Sunday, the

It looks to be an eventful week as Brexit negotiations resume on Monday, with the European Union warning it will not budge on its decision to renegotiate the Brexit deal and Britain planning to override parts of the deal on Northern Ireland.

Earlier this week, Germany’s minister of state for Europe, Michael Roth, appealed to the UK government to stop its plans to push through an internal market bill that could see Britain breaking international law.

“Please, dear friends in London, stop the games, time is running out, what we really need is a fair basis for further negotiations and we are ready for
