SpartanNash seeks to fill 1,000 openings in Michigan

KENT COUNTY, MI — SpartanNash is looking to fill more than 1,000 openings at its grocery stores and gas stations in Michigan.
The openings are for a variety of positions, including cashiers, baristas, personal shoppers, deli clerks, pharmacy technicians and butchers.
Starting hourly rates are between $12 and $14, said Shaquanda Gordon, vice president of human resources, talent and diversity.
The positions offer flexible hours for days, nights and weekends, the company said. About 80 percent of the openings are for part-time positions, while the remainder are for full-time jobs.
Factors contributing to the demand for employees is a “significant” sales increase amid the coronavirus pandemic due to fewer people frequenting restaurants, Gordon said.
Seasonal hiring needs and employee turnover have also played a role.
“There were a lot of people who said I either don’t feel safe or I have family members who I can’t expose due to COVID,”
