Hoping to shore up support, Trump directs more money to farmers

October 13, 2020

It’s been nearly three years since Donald Trump spoke at the American Farm Bureau’s annual convention, where the Republican strutted like a man who assumed he was among adoring fans. “Oh, are you happy you voted for me,” the president said, straying from the prepared text. “You are so lucky that I gave you that privilege.”

It wasn’t long, however, before Trump launched a misguided trade war, which had the predictable effect of hurting much of the domestic agricultural industry. It wasn’t long before we started seeing reports on “farm-state fury” over the White House’s agenda.

The president’s solution has been straightforward: he’s repeatedly directed billions of dollars to farmers, and as the New York Times reports today, “government money is flowing faster than ever” now that Trump needs farmers’ electoral support.

Federal payments to farmers are projected to hit a record $46 billion this year as the White House

Tax records show 200 entities funneled money to Trump properties while reaping benefits from White House: NYT

A New York Times analysis of tax records showed that more than 200 companies, special-interest groups and foreign governments have funneled millions of dollars to President Trump’s properties while reaping benefits from the president and his administration.

Nearly a quarter of the entities have not been previously reported.

Sixty patrons who promoted specific interests to the Trump administration spent almost $12 million on expenses associated with the Trump Organization during the first two years of Trump’s presidency. The Times reported nearly all of these customers saw their interests move forward.

The Times noted that the tax records do not include all payments to Trump properties, but additional data is tracked by the town of Palm Beach, Fla., where Trump’s Mar-a-Lago club is located. Organizations that had special interests reported spending $3.3 million on

Biden leads in Arizona as suburban women abandon Trump

October 12, 2020

PHOENIX

Call it their fail-safe option.

If Joe Biden were to lose a critical Midwest battleground like Michigan or Wisconsin, Democrats are counting on Arizona to bail him out, acting as a potential replacement state with enough electoral power to prevent President Donald Trump’s re-election.

After Trump carried this emerging swing state by just over 91,000 votes four years ago, some Republicans are now already bracing for a defeat that could “cut deeply down the ballot,” as one GOP aide in state government put it.

With early voting now underway and Democrats consistently tracking Biden with a 3-to-4 point lead, the Trump campaign is planning additional visits here from the ticket as soon as this week, attempting to salvage a reliably red bastion as suburban women are turning away from the GOP in droves.

“It’s fairly close. If anybody has a slight polling advantage it would be Biden,” said Constantin

These Zip Codes Are Donating the Most Money to Donald Trump

October 11, 2020

The upcoming presidential election will be a historic one for many reasons, not the least of which being the current COVID-19 pandemic. Many states are opting for mail-in ballots, with some sending mail-in options to every registered voter because of the health crisis. Political analysts believe that the voter turnout may be higher this year than in previous years, solely due to the accessibility of a mail-in vote versus voting in person.

In addition to the mail-in option now available in most states—and available for the first time in some states—many states that went red in 2016 are now projected to turn blue. National polling released Sept. 28 showed Biden commanding a solid, 8-point lead over Trump nationally. Interestingly, while both Biden and Trump have similar numbers of donations overall, Biden received more money from his top 50 zip codes. For example, Biden’s top zip

  • Individuals, foreign governments, and lobbyists are spending big at Trump’s resorts and hotels and gaining from his administration, a New York Times investigation found.
  • It found that 60 individuals had spent $12 million in Trump’s businesses and, in some form, saw their interests advanced by his administration.
  • Trump won the election in 2016 pledging to “drain the swamp,” but is profiting from favor-seekers patronizing his hotels and resorts.
  • Visit Business Insider’s homepage for more stories.

More than 200 foreign governments, lobbying groups, and individuals spent money in President Donald Trump’s businesses and benefitted from his administration, a New York Times investigation found.

It documents how foreign government officials, corporate executives, lobbyists, and attorneys patronized Trump businesses and were awarded lucrative federal contracts, ambassadorship, and appointments to federal task forces. Others secured legal changes. For some, the favor granted by the president was a tweet.

According to the Times investigation, 60
